I am editing my latest book, THE IRISHMAN, another adventure novel. In 1874 Sean O’Hara flees from British occupied Ireland with his family after British soldiers kill his father and uncle. Taking the family to New York City, he encounters the hostility to the Irish prevalent at the time. He works and fights his way to wealth and power.
Excerpt from THE IRISHMAN:
Two men grabbed Sean and held him while Billy drew a pistol and slashed it across Sean's face. Billy struck again, breaking Sean's nose and then nodded to his two men. When they released Sean, he fell to the ground where he lay unmoving. Billy kicked Sean, breaking several ribs, then stopped, waiting for Sean to regain consciousness. Waving the pistol in Sean's face, he snickered. "How's it feel, Mick? Hurts, don't it?"
Sean groaned, surprised to feel the pistol still in his belt. They didn't search me! The shame he felt at being taken so easily, gave way to rage. He held his stomach and faked a grimace. "I guess this makes us even, huh?"
Billy laughed. "No way. I told you I'd feed your heart to the fish." He pushed the gun into Sean's face and yelled, "Bang!" He laughed. "After I shoot you in both knees so you can feel like my buddy Al did, I'll shoot you in the guts. Then, while you're still alive, I'm gonna cut your heart out. How about that, eh?"
Billy was still laughing when Sean pulled his gun and shot him three times.
